1. About these terms
These terms apply to your use of the tamaru apps for Android and iOS, including their widgets and shortcuts ("tamaru" or "the app"). tamaru is made by qantara, an independent developer based in Mexico ("we" or "us"). By downloading or using tamaru, you agree to these terms. The terms of the store you bought it from (Google Play or the App Store) also apply.
2. What tamaru is
tamaru is a personal budgeting tool. It lets you record expenses, income and transfers, capture entries from Apple Pay, bank notifications, receipts and your voice, set budgets, track recurring payments, credit card cycles, installment plans, savings goals and debts, and see insights and forecasts, all stored on your own device. Our privacy policy explains how the app handles your data.
3. Price and purchase
- One-time price. tamaru costs US$9.99, or the equivalent price the store sets in your country, paid once when you download it. The price shown in the store at the time of purchase, including any taxes, is the price you pay.
- Everything included. Your purchase unlocks every feature of the app. There are no subscriptions, in-app purchases or ads.
- Updates. Updates we release for tamaru are included at no extra cost.
- One store per purchase. A purchase on Google Play and a purchase on the App Store are separate. Buying on one doesn't unlock the app on the other. You can reinstall the app on devices signed in to the same store account, as that store allows.
- Family sharing. Where the store supports it and it's enabled for tamaru, your purchase can be shared through Google Play Family Library or Apple Family Sharing.
- Refunds. Google and Apple process payments and refunds under their own policies. To request a refund, use the store you bought from. We can't issue refunds directly.
- Price changes. We may change the price for future buyers. A change never affects a purchase you've already made.
4. Your license
When you buy tamaru, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use it on devices you own or control, as the store's rules allow. You may not copy, resell, redistribute or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows this.
If you downloaded tamaru from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple isn't a party to these terms and isn't responsible for the app or its support.
5. Your data and backups
You own everything you enter in tamaru. We don't host or sync your data, and it's excluded from your device's own backups. Keeping backups is your responsibility: use the app's encrypted backups, and keep your recovery phrase or passphrase somewhere safe.
Backups can only be opened with that phrase or passphrase. If you lose it, or lose your device without a backup, your data can't be recovered, by you or by us. Backups saved to a cloud folder are also subject to that provider's terms and availability.
6. Automatic capture
Apple Pay capture, bank notification capture, receipt scanning and voice input depend on information provided by Apple, your banks and your device. Banks can change their notifications at any time, and recognition can make mistakes, so captured entries may be missing, duplicated or wrong. Review them before relying on them, especially if you allow a source to save entries automatically.
7. Not financial advice
Budgets, forecasts, payoff plans, installment schedules, card payment amounts, savings suggestions and exchange rates are estimates to help you organize your own money. They aren't financial, investment, tax or legal advice. Check the amounts your bank or card issuer reports before paying. Exchange rates are daily reference rates and may differ from the rates your bank applies. For decisions that matter, check with a qualified professional.
8. Third-party services
tamaru can work with services we don't control: Apple Shortcuts and Siri, your banking apps' notifications, the folder or cloud service you choose for backups, and Frankfurter for optional exchange rates. We can't guarantee that they'll always be available or accurate. The app's core features work without them.
9. Acceptable use
Use tamaru for lawful, personal purposes, and in line with the terms of the store you got it from.
10. Updates and support
We may release updates that add, change or remove features, for example to fix problems or keep up with operating system changes. We aim to keep tamaru working on supported versions of Android and iOS, but we can't promise that every device or future system version will be supported. For help, email support@tamaru.app.
11. Intellectual property
tamaru, its name, logo, design and code belong to qantara. These terms don't give you any rights to them beyond the license in section 4.
12. No warranty
We build tamaru with care, but it's provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that its calculations or captured entries will be accurate for your situation.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of tamaru. Our total liability for any claim related to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it.
14. Your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived. This includes Mexico's Federal Consumer Protection Law (Ley Federal de Protección al Consumidor) and the laws of the country where you live. If you're a consumer in Mexico, you can also contact the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO).
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Mexico. Any dispute will be handled by the competent courts of Mexico, unless the consumer laws where you live give you the right to bring a claim where you live.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll update this page and the effective date above. If a change is significant, we'll also note it in the app's release notes. If you keep using tamaru after a change, the updated terms apply.
