Set a monthly limit for any category. tamaru shows when you're on track, when you pass 80%, and when you go over. Limits reset on the 1st.

Get a heads-up before rent, subscriptions, card payments and installments are due, at the time you choose. Pick whether reminders show the name, the name and amount, or nothing at all. With the app lock on, they never show either.

Privacy
Almost nothing. There's no tamaru server to send your data to. Here is the full list.

On Android, the database is encrypted with SQLCipher using a 256-bit key protected by the Android Keystore. On iPhone, it's protected by iOS Data Protection.
Tap your balance to hide every amount. Widgets, notifications and Siri follow the same setting, tamaru stays covered in the app switcher, and on Android it blocks screenshots by default.
Your data
Nothing is stored in our cloud, so you decide where copies go.
Back up daily or weekly to a folder you choose, such as iCloud Drive or a folder on your phone. Each backup is encrypted with a recovery phrase or a passphrase of your own.
Move to a new phone by restoring a backup with your phrase. Restoring replaces the data currently on that device.
Write monthly summaries as Markdown for Obsidian or Notion, export a journal for plain-text accounting, or open your entries in any spreadsheet.
Erase all data in one step. You confirm by typing delete.

FAQ
No, and it never asks for your bank login. On iPhone, it can log your Apple Pay payments through a Shortcuts automation. On Android, it can read purchase notifications from the banking apps you choose. Both happen on your phone.
No. Quick add is a set of rules that runs on your phone and learns your categories from past entries. Voice input and receipt scanning use on-device recognition: your phone's own speech recognizer, Apple's Vision on iPhone, and the open-source Tesseract engine built into the Android app. Nothing is sent anywhere.
There's no sync. To move your data, restore an encrypted backup on the other device. Restoring replaces the data already on that device.
Restore your latest automatic backup on your new phone with your recovery phrase or passphrase. tamaru has no server copy, so without a backup, or without the phrase, your records can't be recovered.
Android 10 or later and iOS 17 or later. The app is available in English, Spanish, German, French and Korean, and follows your system's light or dark theme unless you pick one.
